One of the greatest joys in children's ministry is watching young children discover that worship isn't just something adults do. Worship is something they can do too.

Our May Week 1 toddler curriculum focuses on David's joyful praise found in Psalm 150. Through music, movement, hands-on activities, and a simple storybook, children are introduced to the idea that God created them to praise Him.

This Week's Bible Story

Colorful Christian children's ministry curriculum cover featuring a joyful illustration of David playing a harp while children sing, clap, dance, and play instruments. Based on Psalm 150, this Week 1 lesson teaches preschool and toddler-aged children to praise the Lord through music, worship, and joyful expression.

David loved God and wasn't afraid to show it. Throughout the Psalms, we see David praising God with songs, instruments, and joyful worship.

In Psalm 150, we find a celebration of praise as David encourages God's people to praise Him with trumpets, harps, tambourines, dancing, strings, and cymbals.

For toddlers, the message is simple:

We can praise God too.

Why Music Matters

Music is one of the most effective tools in toddler ministry and every other. That is one reason why this toddler Bible lesson on Psalm 150 is so valuable.

Long before children can understand deeper theological concepts, they can sing, clap, dance, and participate in worship.

That's one reason this lesson focuses so heavily on praise through music.

When children experience worship as something joyful, they begin building positive connections with God and church from an early age.

3 Simple Ways to Teach Praise to Toddlers

1. Let Children Participate in Worship

Toddlers learn best when they are actively involved. Encourage children to clap, dance, march, or play simple instruments while listening to worship music. Participation helps transform worship from something they watch into something they experience.

2. Connect Praise to Everyday Life

Help children understand that praising God isn't limited to church. Talk about things they are thankful for and encourage them to thank God for family, friends, food, and the many blessings He provides each day.

3. Make Worship Joyful

David praised God with excitement and celebration. Create opportunities for children to sing, move, and express their joy in age-appropriate ways. When worship is presented as a joyful response to God's goodness, children begin building positive connections with both worship and faith.

Bringing Faith Home

Parents play an important role in helping children develop a love for God.

One of the simplest ways to reinforce this lesson is by playing worship music throughout the week and encouraging children to participate.

The goal isn't perfect singing.

The goal is helping children learn that worship is a joyful response to God's goodness.

My Experience in the Classroom

I'm glad to say this lesson was very well received. The children and parents both enjoyed learning about the different instruments used to praise God. I found that the story worked especially well when paired with physical representations of the instruments featured throughout the book, giving the children something tangible to connect with the lesson.

It also pairs perfectly with music, which is something I always encourage in toddler ministry. Music has a unique way of helping children engage with and remember what they're learning, and this lesson naturally lends itself to singing, movement, and joyful worship.

Our Heart Behind These Resources

I remember the frustrations I had with curriculums when I began teaching children's Ministry several years ago. From being voluntold to the classroom or going there with a joyful heart, its much easier when the lessons are practical, easy to teach, and not overly resource expending. Being in the position now to make this curriculum for my own class now, I am thankful to be enjoying these benefits about my own curriculum as I teach it, so I want to share this experience with you.

As such, one of the goals of Humble Exception is to create resources that support churches, volunteers, and families as they teach children about Jesus. To help make these resources accessible, we're offering our weekly lessons as a free download to those who subscribe to our email list.

Subscribing is completely free and allows us to keep you informed about new curriculum releases, ministry resources, blog posts, and other tools designed to encourage and equip your ministry.

We hope this lesson is a blessing to your classroom, church, or family and helps little hearts discover the joy of praising God. If you would like to subscribe, please follow this link.
